Stöckli Montero AX (All Mountain Ski 2023/2024)

Product Summary

The Stöckli Montero AX's full retail price is 1.439 €. The Ski costs roughly 770 € more than the average price of all All Mountain Skis, making it a real luxury Ski. During our extensive review the Ski proved to be easy to master as well as very stable at speed. Moreover he proved to be a ski with excellent edge hold. Skilled skiers will enjoy both relaxed cruising and pushing the ski to its limit. The All Mountain Ski prefers perfectly groomed runs over fresh powder. However due to its medium-width waist, this ski is also a good shout for riders who like to venture off piste from time to time. Available lengths for the ski are ranging between 163 and 183cm.

The ski in details

Comfortable All-Mountain Ski for fun in all conditions

The Montero AX promises total versatility. Groomed pistes? Fresh powder? Heavy spring slush? Everything is no problem for this playful do-it-all. Wave-shaped slits in the Titanal plus a rocker at the tip and tail make this ski easy handling and nimble, ideal for short to mid-radius turns. With its waist of 80 mm, it also gets stability and performs perfectly in all conditions.

Technologies

Rocker: The gradual bending up of the ski at its tip and tail is called the rocker. Stöckli modifies the rocker according to the type of ski. Typically, the longer and more pronounced the rocker, the more lift is generated and the more responsive and easy-turning the ski becomes.

Light Core: Particularly light European wood species are deployed in the all-mountain, freeride/off-piste and touring segments. This makes the core a little softer and suppler, which lends the ski dynamism and makes it very durable.

Full Edge Contact: The widest points of the ski are set further forward or back. This makes the shovel grip faster and the part of the edge in contact with the snow when the ski is tilted becomes longer.

Solid Metal Edge Light: Same edge width as the SME. A modified die-cutting procedure, however, means the edge is inserted less deeply into the ski, which saves weight.

Adaptive Contact Length: The widest point on the shovel is set further forward. Together with a slight rocker (more gradual up-bend of the shovel), the more the ski is tilted, the further forward the contact point of the edge with the snow moves. This preserves its nimble characteristics without sacrificing stability and grip during the turn.

Tail Rocker: A longer rocker at the tail with a flatter radius.

Flex Torsion Control: An S-shaped notch in the aluminum at the shovel and tail of the ski offers softer flex and torsion at the front and rear. As a result, the ski exhibits more torsional flex, making it easier to initiate turns. At the same time, when changing direction, the ski remains under control because the torsion can adapt.
