Salomon Ski was founded in 1947 by Francois Salomon and his son Georges in the southern French town of Annecy. To begin with, the company only produced skis until it managed a considerable coup in the mid-1960s. Georges invented the first ski bindings with an automatic release, so-called safety bindings. Salomon quickly made millions with these new ski bindings and became market leader. The first Salomon skis came to the market at the start of the 1980s.
Nowadays Salomon is an all-round provider of Alpine and Nordic sports products and offers a vast array of Alpine and Nordic skis, bindings, boots, helmets, poles and clothing. Salomon is also an expert in snowboards and snowboard accessories. The company places a particular emphasis on environmentally-friendly production and is increasingly focusing on using renewable resources. The Salomon Group was taken over by the Finnish Amer Group in recent years, which also owns its Austrian competitor Atomic. Since then, a large proportion of the skis have been produced at the Atomic ski factory in Altenmarkt.
