The Cross-Country Area

Located only minutes away from downtown Ottawa, Gatineau Park offers a natural area in the midst of a metropolitan one. The park contains over 200 kilometers (124 miles) of trails, with difficulties varying from beginner-level to highly difficult routes. Over half of the trails are suited for skating techniques as well. The park even offers the opportunity of back-country skiing, with a trail network of 53 kilometers (33 miles) open to fans of ungroomed paths.

Visitors can also try snowshoeing in Gatineau Park. Passes for snowshoeing purposes are sold seperately and the necessary equipment can be rented in one of the shops nearby. Across the entire park, cross-country skiers and snowshoers will find a total of 11 huts equipped with stoves, picnic tables and bathrooms.

Those looking to fully immerse themselves in the natural surroundings can even stay overnight in the park. Tents or huts including fire wood can be rented. Water and baggage services are also available.
