Flachau, Wagrain and Alpendorf merge into Snow Space Salzburg

What had already been an interconnected ski area, is now one single ski resort. “Snow Space Salzburg" is a 3-in-1 ski resort offering the best possible mountain conditions as well as a great variety of slopes and lifts. The three top ski resorts of Flachau, Wagrain and St. Johann-Alpendorf merge into one, thus being one of Austria's biggest winter sports playgrounds and another great destination for tourists to fly in every winter to hit the slopes. The expansion does not only include the ski area's new name, but also several major projects, such as a giant investment of 50 Million Euros in total until 2019, which includes three ski lift projects.

In what is described as one of the most ambitious mergers, the first step to Snow Space Salzburg has already been made in March 2017 when Wagrain and Flachau merged and hence one of Austria's biggest cable car systems came into being. In cooperation with Alpendorf Bergbahnen AG a demanding brand effort was untertaken within the last weeks. The new unified brand ”Snow Space Salzburg“ will keep the three place names of the once separated ski resorts. Moreover “Snow Space“ is not new to visitors who where spending their vacations and ski trips in Flachau, as this ski resort already had “Snow Space“ in its name, which was also the impetus for keeping it as an addition.

"Best of Mountains"

Needless to say, a brand-new and catchy slogan has also been unveiled. The accompanying slogan “Best of Mountains“ implies that Snow Space Salzburg offers the best possible mountain conditions in both summer and winter, which includes a breathtakingly beautiful environment, pristine nature, many-faceted pleasures, an outstanding service as well as unforgettable winter experiences and sports activities. Due to the brand's sophisticated marketing strategy, Snow Space Salzburg will be on the spot and on everyone's lips starting this winter season 2017/2018.

Within the next two years, there will be an investment of some 50 Million Euros in total. This neat sum of money includes three ski lift projects, among which is the reconstruction of Flying Mozart at Wagrain (25 Mio Euros), the connection between Wagrain and Flachauwinkl-Kleinarl ski resort (12 Mio Euros) and last but not least the reconstruction of Sonntagskogel 2 (7 Mio Euros) between Alpendorf and Wagrain. Other parts of the investment program will be invested in improving the reservoir facilities.

Up until the winter season 2019/2020, the new trails and extensions, such as improvements in artificial snowmaking, shall be implemented; part of which is supposed to commence next year.´

With this year's winter season, some first changes are visible for Snow Space Salzburg's guests: There is a new, reduced family ticket on weekends. Moreover, ski trail signs are replaced and renewed; further, the grooming quality of the three subareas is adjusted.

Merger includes 120 km of slopes

Currently, skiers and snowboarders are free to enjoy 120 km of runs in Flachau, Wagrain and Alpendorf. In the years ahead, a large expansion of its total slope length will proceed. As soon as the ski area is connected with Kleinarl, there will be another 40 km of slopes. Furthermore, guests can make use of a ride to Zauchensee ski resort starting in Kleinarl, which adds up to another 50 km. In offering more than 200 km of slope length in total, Snow Space Salzburg would then be the biggest linked ski area in the Ski amadé region.
