    Skiing from September until May

Although the ski area is located directly on the main ridge of the Alps and the large snowfalls that reach the Alps from the north are usually less in the Ötztal, we award the top score here. Because of the altitude up to nearly 3,300 meters, it is possible almost every winter to start the ski season already in November. On the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers, the lifts usually open as early as September and the season extends into May. From autumn on, there is an almost one hundred percent guarantee of snow here. All major slopes have snow-making facilities, should the snow ever fail to arrive. The valley slopes can also be covered with artificial snow.

A few years ago, there was skiing in Sölden even in summer. Since the glacier tongues in the Ötztal are retreating noticeably, however, it was sensibly decided to discontinue summer skiing completely.
