Ski Resort Säntis in the Appenzell region: Position on map

Säntis Ski Resort

Trail Map Säntis

The Ski Resort

Säntis is located about 10 kilometers from Appenzell. With a height of 2501 meters it is the highest mountain in eastern Switzerland. From the summit you can see not less than 6 countries: Switzerland, Austria, Germany, France, Liechtenstein and Italy. Here you can experience real adventures! There are no marked or groomed trails - just pure nature! Thus, Säntis is only recommendable for very experienced skiers. All in all there are four different  runs. The runs leading from Stütze 2 to Toggenburg and from the summit to Wasserau do not require any hikes in between. If you choose the one leading from the summit to Brülisau a one hour hike to Brötzelsattel and a shorter hike to Widderalpsattel are required. For the run leading from the summit to Toggenburg via Rotsteinpass you should plan a 1 1/2 hour hike from Meglisalp to Rotsteinpass. Nonetheless, the great panorama and untouched snow fields make these hikes worth the effort.

Yet, you may also enjoy winter around Säntis a little less spectacular. At the old lift Schwägalp families have the opportunity to go sledding and to spend a wonderful day together. Sleds can be rent. The wonderful winter landscape can also be explored by foot. There´s everything from idyllic walks to demanding tours. For instance, there are two trails available from the Nordic Walking Center Schwägalp. But there are also many opportunities for snowshoeing. Afterwards you can get some refreshment at Berghotel Schwägalp or at Gasthaus Passhöhe where you can get a delicious chesse fondue or a hot drink. Families with little children will most enjoy the Laternliweg Schwägalp, a trail leading through a nature park enlighten by lanterns.
