The Ski Resort

Ofterschwang may be on the smaller side but it´s a great ski resort for skiers and boarders of all abilities. An eventful day in the snow is guaranteed. Wintersport newbies should check out the blue marked slopes from Ofterschwanger Horn to the middle station of Ossi-Reicher gondola. You can also ski down to the base station of the high-speed chairlift Gipfel Express.

Intermediate athletes are going to find red runs everywhere in the resort. Highly recommendable: the red Märchenwiese slope. It starts at Ofterschwang Horn and descends into the valley Gunzensried. The intermediate family run takes you straight from the top of Weltcup Express lift all the way down to the base in Ofterschwang.

Experts on skis are going to love the black Weltcup slope. You can even take different routes and make your way into the valley of Ofterschwang. The black run Jägerabfahrt at Ofterschanger Horn merges with the FIS Worldcup slope at Weltcup Express chair lift.

Of course the ski resort boasts a terrain park for snowboarder and freestyler. Located right underneath the Ofterschwanger Horn, the blue summit slope gives you access to the park. Hit ten different elements that´ll take your skills to the next level .The resort´s staff is dedicated to providing most innovative features for all ability levels.

The ski resort actually has two practice areas for youngsters. First one is located at the valley station Olderschwang and provides a beginners lift. The second one is the kids park, right next to the mountain station of Weltcup-Express.

On Mountain Dining

There are countless choices for a lunch break in the ski resort. At Weltcup Hütte (Worldcup mountain hat) you can´t just eat like a Worldcup champion, but also enjoy the fantastic view on the surrounding mountains. At night you will often get the chance to attend events like BBQs and midsummer parties.

The cosy Wurzelhütte close to the base station in Ofterschwang has all the convincing arguments to pay a visit at your leisure: a great sun deck, homemade cake, local treats and daily fresh trout.

If you want to watch your kids making their first attempts on skis but still want a break for yourself, Leitenbach Hütte is the right address for you. From here you have the best view on your little ones while enjoying the winter sun. At night better leave your kids in bed because it transforms into a  meeting point for Apres-ski fans.

Head down on the Märchenwiese slope to find the popular mountain hat Blässe. Again, you´ll find all kinds of delicacies from the Allgäu on the menu and a sun terrace invites you for relaxing and enjoying a hot beverage.

Must-Ski Runs

FIS Worldcup slope is the most challenging trail in Ofterschwang and you can definitely count it to one of the highlights. The black slope gives you two options that both take you from the mountain station of Weltcup-Express down into the valley of Ofterschwang. To get to Gunzesried, either ride the slope Märchenwiese, the longest trail in the ski resort, or take the red marked slope named Gunzesried.

Activities

The toboggan run along the gondola Ossi-Reichert invites for a fast-paced drive during the day. For those who prefer going for a toboggan run right after dark: take the high-speed quad chairlift Weltcup-Express to reach the starting point. It´s a lighted family toboggan run that is actually 2,5 km (1,5 miles) long. Ride with the Zipflbobs or the traditional wooden slegdes, whatever you prefer.

It´s the perfect place for winter hikers as well. Especially beautiful: The easy passable winter hiking trail around Ofterschwanger Horn which rises up to 1.300 meters (4.265 ft).

Gourmet fans should definitely make a reservation at restaurant Silberdistel in the Hotel Sonnenalp. It has already won several awards, including a Michelin star, two touqes and 16 Gault Millau points. Getting here

By car:
Coming from the North, take A7 to Ulm-Kempten and continue on B19 with direction Sonthofen. Before you arrive in Oberstdorf, make a right to Ofterschwang.
