Located in the Bavarian district of Berchtesgadener Land, Jenner is a wonderful ski area despite its small size. The easy and intermediate slopes are ideal for families and more pleasure-oriented skiers. By the start of the 2019-20 winter season, the operators will have invested 57 million Euros to expand and modernize the ski area.

A total of six lifts transport winter sports fans to ten different slopes. The lifts include a new 10-person gondola lift with two sections. 26 of the total area of 30 hectares (64 of 74 acres) can be artificially provided with snow. This way, ski pleasure is guaranteed even if the weather is not ideal.

The slopes located higher up the mountain are suited for more experienced skiers. The difficult slopes can be found around the mountain station, the Mitterkaseralm and the mountain station at the Mitterkaser lift. Beginners can try the easier slopes around the Jennerwiesenbahn and the downhill run. The latter is one of the longest downhill runs in the entire East Alps.

Jenner has kids' parks at the valley and mid station for the younger guests to enjoy. Ski instructors at the local ski school will help beginners with their first times on the slope to make sure you will be ready for the more challenging runs in no time! A ski kindergarten for the youngest of the winter sports guests is available near the valley station.

On Mountain Dining

There are two brand-new options for guests to choose from when looking for a place to take a break and find something to eat. The Restaurant at the mountain station Jennerbahn definitely has the best view. At an altitude of 1,800 meters (5,900 feet), up to 350 skiers and snowboarders can enjoy the panoramic view on the sun terrace.

The second restaurant added only recently is the Halbzeit at the mid station Jennerbahn at an altitude of 1,200 meters (3,900 feet). Beside its inside area, the Halbzeit also has a terrace on which guests can relax on deck- and beach chairs.

A highlight at Jenner is the new downhill run. With a length of seven kilometers (4.3 miles), it is one of the longest continuous runs in the East Alps. The slope is relatively easy, meaning that beginners and families with kids do not have to take the gondola lift back to the valley but instead can enjoy the route on their skis.

Activities

Berchtesgadener Land also has plenty to offer aside from the slope. Skitouring is quite popular, with the Große Reibn being one of the most frequented tours. On this route, participants hike around Lake Königssee, covering a distance of 50 kilometers (31 miles) and an altitude of 4,500 meters (14,800 feet). The tour includes an overnight stay in the winter room at the Kärlingerhaus near Lake Funtensee. Beginners might want so start at Salewa skitouring park, where experienced instructors give skitouring lessons.

If you're looking for a different kind of winter sports experience, why not try snow biking, snow tubing or Zipfelbob (tobogganing)? The latter can be experienced right at the Jenner mountain station, while you will have to travel to the ski arena in Obersalzberg or Hochschwarzeneck to go snow tubing. You can even build an igloo and then stay in there overnight!

Several winter hiking trails can be found in the area as well. Lake Königssee and its surroundings have a completely different atmosphere during wintertime, so a walk around the lake can certainly be recommended.
