Grindelwald – Wengen: Ski in the shadow of Eiger’s infamous north face!

The Jungfrau ski region surrounding the ski resorts Grindelwald and Wengen is one of those trips that is guaranteed to live long in the memory. Why? Well, the mighty Eiger (3970m), Mönch (4107m) and Jungfrau (4158m) peaks are three good reasons, and they certainly live up to their billing as one the most impressive mountain massifs anywhere on Earth. On Kleine Scheidegg, skiers almost feel like the Eiger north face is within touching distance.

The slopes surrounding Grindelwald make up two ski areas: The smaller Grindelwald First in the north is a popular spot for freestyle skiers and snowboarders, thanks in no small part to the excellent White Elements terrain park. Families with young kids also appreciate the quieter slopes here. The runs on the southern side of Grindelwald are substantially busier. Here, the Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen ski area connects the resorts of Grindelwald and Wengen with each other. The Kleine Scheidegg is also home to the world-famous Lauberhorn course and the Hotel Bellevue des Alpes, where the movie “Nordwand” was filmed.

These two ski areas are connected by ski buses and train services, and the ski pass is always valid for both areas. Find out everything you need to know about the bus service between the ski areas at http://www.grindelwaldbus.ch.

Mürren Schilthorn is the third ski area which is grouped within the Jungfrau ski region. However, it should be noted that the car ride from Grindelwald to the Mürren Schilthorn valley station takes a good half hour and a more expensive ski pass is required to explore the entire Jungfrau region. As a result, this test focuses on the two ski areas around Grindelwald and Wengen.

It's the combination that makes it so great. Varied slopes and a unique backdrop. If you live in Wengen, you sometimes have the feeling of being in another time. Arriving by cog railway, no cars an... Read complete review

beautiful large area with great slopes
The ski area can be reached from Grindelwald by train (which I find unique) or by gondola. In the skiing area you can enjoy the breathtaking mountain scenery in many places (e.g. from Lauberhorn, M... Read complete review

The ski area around Grindelwald and male is a natural experience!
Together with Grindelwald-first, the ski resort cuts small scheidegg males in almost all categories very well. Only in the après-ski is the ski resort (typical for Swiss ski resorts!) only mediocr... Read complete review
