The constantly growing trail network now comprises more than 130 kilometres of routes for all levels of ability, attracting winter sports fans from around the globe to the area. The varied range of trails lead through snowbound forests, past frozen lakes and eye-catching ponds, offering more than enough to get cross-country fans’ hearts racing.
The Biathlon World Cup comes to Ruhpolding
Every year the great and the good of the biathlon world descend of Ruhpolding. At the start of January, the Biathlon World Cup event in Ruhpolding’s Chiemgau Arena unleashes bedlam in this otherwise tranquil village. Tens of thousands of fans come to cheer on the athletes during the thrilling events in front of the picturesque mountain backdrop.
Cross-country training for everyone
The local cross-country schools have the right training course for every age group and skill level. Beginners and advanced learners alike can perfect their breathing technique in both classic and skate skiing styles. In addition, a special programme is also available for kids, while a biathlon taster course is also offered here.
The Ruhpolding cross-country region is also connected to the Inzell and Reit im Winkl trail networks via the mammoth 35-km Chiemgau-Marathon-Loipe.
The Most Beautiful Tracks
3-Seen-Loipe
One absolute highlight in the Chiemgau trail network is the 3-Seen-Loipe, which is known as one of the snowiest trails in the region. This eye-catching route leads through the snowy forests and past majestic lakes mirroring the mountain backdrop. This is also the longest trail in the area around Ruhpolding.
Madshus-Loipe
The mountain backdrop of the Madshus-Loipe, which runs at the foot of Unternberg, is also memorable and majestic. In addition, the trail itself is very varied, making it a real treat for both beginners and pros alike.

If you are on the Sonnenloipe, the Mittersee-Hütte directly by the lake is a fantastic place to take a break and enjoy some regional delights. Moreover, Ruhpolding offers up a range of welcoming cafés and restaurants for anyone in need of food or refreshment.
Getting Here
By car: Ruhpolding is easily accessible from Munich or Salzburg via the A8. Exit the motorway at Siegsdorf and head for Inzell on the B306. Turn onto the B305 there, which then leads to Ruhpolding. Alternatively, you can take the B304 to Siegsdorf if you are travelling from the north-west or east. From there, the St2098 leads directly to Ruhpolding.
By train: Rail travellers can alight at the station in Ruhpolding.
